Welcome to the Standard School District website!

Standard School District, established in 1909, is located in the North Bakersfield community of Oildale. The district serves approximately 3100 students from transitional kindergarten through the eighth grade in four schools: Standard Elementary School, Wingland Elementary School, Highland Elementary School, and Standard Middle School.  We are proud to report construction is complete on our brand-new middle school, multipurpose/band room, STEM lab and renovated gymnasium.  Modernization of Standard Elementary School is currently underway.

District goals focus on increasing student achievement, maintaining a positive climate, and implementing a rigorous curriculum.  Standard School District values communication with all students, parents, staff and community members.  By working together, we are confident that we will celebrate many successes throughout the year as we build a positive school culture and provide the strongest academic program in the area.  Entering my 7th year as superintendent and with continued stability in the Board and Administration, the district has been able to stay the course, while continually looking for ways to improve.

Standard School District is dedicated to educating the whole child and offers a wide array of programs and activities to enhance our students' learning and development.  We provide a quality standards-based educational program using newly purchased History/Social Studies and Science textbooks and digital curriculum.  The district is a leader in 21st Century educational technology in Kern County.  We provide 1-to-1 Chromebooks to every student in 1st through 8th grades and integrate technology in our instruction to engage students and enhance learning. Educational field trips for every student in each grade level are provided every year by the district.  All 6th grade students are able to attend Camp KEEP at no cost to parents.  Elementary students receive instruction from a music teacher and two P.E. teachers while middle school students benefit from a schoolwide AVID program and outstanding band, choir, theater, and fine arts programs.  In addition,we offer a quality after school program with academic-focused enrichment hands-on activities at each of our school sites at no cost to parents. Furthermore, our students participate in the North of the River (NOR) interscholastic sports program.

Our nutrition service program provides a healthy breakfast and quality lunch that includes fresh fruit and salad bar to every student at no cost to parents.  Student support services offered by Standard School District are provided by school nurses, school psychologists, behavior intervention specialists, retired teacher tutors and bilingual aides at each school site.  Additionally, a district family advocate, school resource officer, and two middle school counselors help meet the needs of students and their families.

We care about our schools, our students, and our staff.  We encourage you to look around our website, or even better, stop by one of our great schools or the Education Service Center and we would be happy to show you around.  Standard School District is a wonderful place for your child to learn for a better tomorrow!

Sincerely,

Paul Meyers
